Shooting panoramas 160 (!) -megapixel camera

The Swiss company Seitz Phototechnik has prepared a very impressive novelty for the upcoming Photokina 2021 exhibition – a Seitz 6×17 Digital panoramic camera with a Seitz D3 digital scan back.

Especially for this “bundle”, DALSA Corporation has developed a wide-format sensor with a size of 6×17 cm and a resolution of 160 megapixels (the size of one photosensitive element is 8×8 microns). The maximum size of the resulting frame is 7500×21250 pixels. In addition to the “exclusive” formats 6×17 and 6×15 cm, traditional ones are also available – 6×6 and 6×9 cm.

Other characteristics are no less striking:

  • Equivalent sensitivity range: ISO 500 – 10000
  • Minimum shutter speed: 1/20000 s
  • Full scan time: 1 s
  • Color depth: 48 bit
  • Write speed: 300 MB / s
  • RAW file size (16 bit) when shooting at 6×17 cm format: 307 MB
  • Uncompressed TIFF file size (48 bit) when shooting at 6×17 cm format: 922 MB

This device is controlled via a VGA touchscreen and wireless. In addition, there is also a Gigabit Ethernet interface, through which files are transferred to an external drive.

Seitz 6×17 Digital can work with high quality large format Schneider and Rodenstock lenses. And also with Linhof Technorama, Fuji and others, but through a special adapter.

The Seitz 6×17 Digital camera complete with the Seitz D3 digital scan back will go on sale in early 2021. The price of the “mobile” version of the device is about $ 36,300. The studio version is slightly cheaper – “only” $ 33,700. Just do not forget that you will have to fork out for optics separately.
