Sharp development: 3 full screen images on one LCD at the same time

Sharp announced yesterday that it has developed an LCD display that can show three different images at once when viewed from different angles.

A Japanese press release from the company refers to a possible application of the development: the driver sees a navigation map on the display, the passenger in the front seat browses the websites, and the passenger in the back watches a movie.

This display is a continuation of Sharp’s work on such “multi-monitors”. Last year, the company already announced displays showing a different image to two viewers.

Details of the technology and technical characteristics of Sharp’s new products are not given, however, it is said about the use of a parallax obstacle that directs light beams at different angles, and almost unlimited possibilities for improving the technology in terms of increasing possible viewing angles. There is no mention of the terms of commercialization – most likely in the coming years, such display devices will remain only a demonstration of technical capabilities.
