At the same time, the SED monitor will be thinner than a conventional LCD monitor, have very low power consumption and will be devoid of the disadvantages characteristic of liquid crystals (LCD).

SED monitors will have a very high contrast ratio of 100,000: 1 (the best LCDs have 1000: 1), excellent color rendition, a 180-degree viewing angle with virtually no loss in image quality, and a minimal response time that will not “blur” the image during sudden changes scenes as on most LCD screens.

Canon began working on SED technology in 1996, Toshiba joined Canon in 1999, but some first significant results appeared only in 2021.
